The ancient cannons, now found on Praia do Forte in Baía da Traição, are artillery pieces from the fort, built by the Portuguese on the historic site of Alto do Tambá, from which the bar and inlet of Baía da Traição could be seen and defended. The fort was garrisoned by soldiers from the Fort of Santa Catarina in Cabedelo and equipped with iron weapons imported from Portugal, believed to have been built around 1625.
